WRECK

Terms

WRECK is a website and a memecoin, $WRECK. It is entertainment built on public records of shipwrecks. Read this before you use it.

What WRECK is

WRECK maps a Solana address to one shipwreck in a pinned index built from Wikidata, and shows its recorded position, the seabed there and what public sources say about it: Wikidata, Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Marine Regions and NOAA. The mapping is deterministic and documented on the site and in the public API.

What it is not

It gives no right to any wreck, wreck site, cargo or remains. A saved wreck and its log are records and pictures, not property in anything physical. Logs that mint as NFTs at launch are images of a public record with a line the holder wrote.

Many wrecks are war graves, and many are protected by law (for example as designated wrecks, scheduled monuments or military remains). Visiting, diving on or disturbing a wreck can be illegal and dangerous. Nothing on this site encourages it.

It is not investment advice, and $WRECK is not an investment product. Memecoins are volatile and can lose all their value. Only use money you can afford to lose.

It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Wikidata, the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Marine Regions (VLIZ), NOAA, Historic Environment Scotland (Canmore), the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales (Coflein) or any navy, museum or survey.

The data

Wreck records come from Wikidata (CC0) and, through it, from the national records it cites. Summaries are quoted from English Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0) with a link to each article. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons; WRECK shows only images in the public domain, under CC0 or under CC BY, and credits the author and licence on each. Sea names come from Marine Regions' IHO Sea Areas (CC BY 4.0). Depths and seabed relief come from NOAA NCEI (ETOPO 2022 and its DEM global mosaic). Records contain mistakes and positions can be approximate; WRECK shows them as they are and says where it had to estimate.

Your wallet

Signing in signs a plain text message, never a transaction. WRECK never asks for your seed phrase or private key and never moves funds. "Use my wallet" only reads your public address.

Your line

The line you write on your log is yours and public once you save it. Don't write anything unlawful, hateful or personal about someone else, and remember that many wrecks are graves. We may remove text that is.

No warranty

WRECK is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. The data services it reads can be slow or down. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or the coin.
